በአለማችን በአመዛኙ በመካከለኛና ዝቅተኛ ገቢ ባላቸው አገራት የሚታየው “ስትሮክ” በድንገተኛ የአዕይምሮ ደም ዝውውር መቋረጥ ምክንያት በማንኛውም ሰው ላይ ሊከሰት ይችላል፡፡ የ”ስትሮክ” በሽታ በሁለት ክፍሎች ይከፈላል፡፡ የመጀመሪያው “ischaemic stroke” እስካሚክ “ስትሮክ” በመባል የሚታወቀው ሲሆን 85 በመቶ የስትሮክ በሽታ ድርሻን ይዛል፡፡ እስከሚክ ስትሮክ ደም ወደ ትክክለኛዉ ቦታ ሳይደርስ ሲቀር የሚከሰት የ”ስትሮክ” በሽታ አይነት ነዉ ፡፡ ሁለተኛው የ”ስትሮክ” አይነት “haemorrhagic stroke” ሄሞራጂክ ስትሮክ በመባል የሚታወቅ ሲሆን ቀሪውን 15 በመቶ የ”ስትሮክ” በሽታ ድርሻን ይዛል፡፡ ሄረሞራጂክ ስትሮክ በአዕምሮ ደም መፍሰስ የሚከሰት የ”ስትሮክ” በሽታ አይነት ነው ፡፡
እስካሁን በተደረጉ ጥናቶች መሰረት ከታች የተጠቀሱ 10 የ”ስትሮክ” በሽታ መከላከያ ዘዴዎችን እንመልከት 
1.የደም ግፊት በሽታን በመከላከል 48 % 
2.የአካል ብቃት አንቅስቃሴን አዘውትሮ በመስራት 36 %
3.አመጋገብን በማስተካከል 19 %
4.ሲጋራን በማቆም 12 %
5.የልብ በሽታን በመከላከል 9 %
6.የስኳር በሽታን በመከላከል 4 %
7.የአልኮል መጠጥን በማቆም 6 %
8.አለአስፈላጊ ጭንቀትን በማስወገድ 6 %
9.ኮልስተሮል ያለባቸውን ምግቦች በማቆም 27 %
10 ከላይ የተጠቀሱ የ”ስትሮክ” በሽታ መከላከያ መንገዶች በጥቅሉ 91 በመቶ የስትሮክ በሽታን መከላከል ይቻላል፡
